The compass rose in the corner of the map has appeared on navigation charts for more than seven hundred years, and it does the same job today as it did back then: it shows where north lies. The parchment is spread open with curled edges, showing an island with mountains, palm trees and a dotted trail leading to the treasure mark; beside it rest a brass compass and a coiled rope. Color the paper beige or toasted yellow so it looks old, the sea on the map a soft blue, the mountains grey and the compass gold. The dotted trail looks great in red.
