Real chests were almost never buried: pirates split the loot among the crew as soon as a voyage ended, so the idea of hidden treasure comes mostly from novels. Chests did exist, though, and they had those iron bands and that enormous lock so nobody could force them open. This one is wide open, brimming with round coins, a pearl necklace spilling over the edge and three cut gemstones. Color the wood a medium brown, the metal fittings dark grey, the coins and the lock gold, the pearls a very pale grey, and the gems in deep green, red and blue.
