The palm trees that grow on Caribbean islands can lean an astonishing amount without snapping: their trunks are flexible and bend like a spring in hurricane winds. In this scene two of them lean over the sand, with a half-buried chest, a shovel stuck in beside it and a ship waiting far away on the horizon line. Color the sand a very pale yellow, the water in two tones — turquoise near the shore and deeper blue further out — the palm leaves a strong green and the trunk greyish brown. The rocks look good in grey with a touch of ochre.
