In sea turtles the temperature of the sand decides whether males or females hatch: cooler nests produce males and warmer ones females. As soon as they leave the egg they race towards the sea, guided by the brightest part of the horizon, and as adults the females return to lay eggs on the very beach where they were born. This hatchling is seen up close, moving forward with its flippers spread and its shell divided into plates. Color the shell in olive green and brown, alternating plate by plate, the flippers greyish green with lighter edges, and the shells on the ground in pink and cream.
