A foal gets to its feet less than an hour after being born, and within a few hours it can already run beside its mother. That happens because it is born with legs almost as long as they will be in adulthood: that is why they look so thin and out of proportion next to the body. In this scene the mare and the foal stand in a meadow, one beside the other, with a wooden fence and tufts of grass around them. Color them in two different shades so they stand apart: the mother chestnut, reddish brown with a lighter mane, and the foal bay, yellowish brown with dark legs. The grass calls for two greens.
