What everyone calls rose thorns are not really thorns: botanists call them prickles, because they grow out of the stem's skin rather than its wood, which is why they snap off if you scrape them. Roses are also an ancient plant: fossils more than thirty million years old have been found. This mandala has one open rose at the center with its petals turning in a spiral, a ring of buds and leaves, another of curving stems, and eight open blooms around the rim. Try a different color for each rose — red, pink, peach, yellow — and use two distinct greens for the leaves.
