Butterfly wings are not painted: they are covered in tiny scales, so small that thousands fit in a single centimeter, and it is those scales that catch the light and create the colors. Every butterfly is also perfectly symmetrical, just like a mandala, so the two go together beautifully. This page has six large butterflies in the outer ring and six smaller ones circling the spiral at the center, separated by flowers and scrolls. Color them in facing pairs using the same shade, the way nature does: monarch orange and black, deep blue, lemon yellow. The flowers in between work best in a pale tone that lets the drawing breathe.
