The word mandala comes from Sanskrit and simply means "circle". They have been drawn in India and Tibet for centuries, sometimes in colored sand that is swept away afterwards, because what matters is the calm spent making them. This one has an eight-petal daisy at its heart and grows outward in rings of flowers, leaves and arches all the way to the rim. Here is a trick: pick three or four colors and repeat them in the same order around every ring, so the symmetry reads from across the room. The petals look lovely in pink, lilac and yellow, the leaves in two different greens, and the outer arches in a soft shade that does not compete with the center.
