The yellow and orange of autumn leaves do not appear out of nowhere: they were there all summer, hidden underneath the green of the chlorophyll. When the cold and the short days arrive, the tree stops making chlorophyll and those colors come into view. Red is the exception — many trees only produce it in autumn. This mandala gathers wavy-edged oak leaves, five-pointed maple leaves, acorns and small round berries around a center holding a single acorn. Color it in ochre, mustard, burnt orange, brick red and brown, shifting the shade on every ring.
