Feathers are made of keratin, exactly the same material as your nails and hair. And they work like velcro: every side barb carries microscopic hooks that latch onto its neighbour, so when a feather gets ruffled the bird simply draws it through its beak to zip it shut again — something it does several times a day. This mandala has a teardrop center, a ring of short feathers, a band of beads and small leaves, and eight long feathers curving outward. You can go natural with browns and creams, or go bold: turquoise, magenta and gold, like a peacock.
