An elephant's trunk contains no bones at all and around forty thousand muscles, far more than your entire body: with it the animal can shove a heavy log aside and, a minute later, pick a single seed off the ground without crushing it. In India elephants have appeared for centuries on fabrics, temples and mandalas, which is why this one arranges six of them in a ring around a lotus flower, an embroidered blanket on each back. Color them grey with the blankets in strong shades — red, blue and gold — the central lotus in pink, and alternate two tones across the paisley teardrops of the outer ring.
