Open-air markets are among the oldest inventions we still use: thousands of years ago people were already gathering in a square to trade fruit, and the two-pan scale hanging in this stall has barely changed shape since. This page shows three tilted wooden crates brimming with apples, oranges, bananas and melons, with more baskets underneath and a striped awning above. It is the richest page in the set: every crate can take its own color, the awning a set of red and white stripes, and the wood two browns, a light one and a darker one for the grain. Leave the scale a metallic gray so it stands apart from the fruit.
