A watermelon is mostly water — more than ninety percent of its weight — which is exactly why it tastes so refreshing on the hottest day of summer. This page shows a whole watermelon with its curving stripes and, in front of it, a big cut wedge where you can see the seeds scattered through the flesh. It is a great drawing for playing with contrast: use two greens on the rind, a dark one for the wide stripes and a lighter one for the background, and leave a thin white band just before the flesh begins. Color that flesh a strong pink or watermelon red, and make the seeds black or dark brown so they really stand out.
