A banana plant can grow several meters tall, yet it is not a tree at all: it is the largest herb on Earth. Here is another oddity: bananas grow pointing upward, curving toward the light. This page shows a hand of five bananas still joined at the crown and, in front of them, a single one half peeled so you can see the pale fruit inside. Yellow is the obvious choice for the skin, but you can make it far more interesting by adding a hint of green at the tips and a few brown speckles, like a banana that is perfectly ripe. The peeled part looks best in a very light beige, almost cream, and the crown that holds them together in a muted green.
