Emperor penguin chicks stand on their parents' feet and tuck into a warm fold of skin: it is the only way to survive Antarctica's forty degrees below zero. Their grey down is no good for swimming — it would soak through — so they stay out of the water until their waterproof feathers grow in. This chick stands beside the adult on an ice floe, much rounder and fluffier than its parent. Color it light grey with an almost white face, and the adult in black and white with an orange-yellow neck. The icebergs look good in very pale blue.
