Engineers copy animal shapes when they design machines, and the tyrannosaurus is a perfect example: it walked with its tail raised to balance the weight of its head, exactly the way two-legged robots do to keep from falling over. Copying a living creature to solve an engineering problem even has a name — biomimicry — and it has given us everything from robot legs to better aeroplane wings. This mechanical dinosaur is built from metal plates and pistons, tail held high, jaw half open showing metal teeth and cables running along its neck. Color the body metallic green or blue-grey, the back plates a darker shade, the pistons and teeth silver, and the cables red and yellow so they stand apart.
