Coconuts are great travelers: they float, survive months in salt water and can drift thousands of kilometers across the ocean before washing up on a distant beach, where they sprout into a brand-new palm tree. The three little holes at one end are the pores the shoot pushes through. This drawing shows a whole coconut with its fibrous husk and a second one split in half, revealing the white flesh inside, with palm fronds behind them. The husk calls for browns: a light one for the fibers and a darker one for the shadows. Leave the flesh almost white, and give the palm leaves a really vivid green.
