In all of these the number shows up stuck to something visible. In counting there are objects on screen and you say how many. In addition and subtraction the operation is solved by looking at two groups of things, not by reading a sum. The digit is there, but never on its own.
The clock works differently: there the number counts nothing, it marks a moment of the day, and you have to read two hands at once — which is why it is worth leaving for last. The shape puzzle belongs in this group because geometry is math too.
