A candy cane is shaped like a shepherd's crook, and that is exactly where it came from: the first ones were plain white and perfectly straight, and only later did they gain that curve and the red stripes we know today. This page shows two canes crossed and tied with a ribbon bow, with mistletoe leaves and berries hanging from the knot. The diagonal stripes are perfect for practicing: color every other one red and leave the rest white. You could also swap red for green or purple and invent your own fantasy canes. The mistletoe wants green leaves with white berries, and the ribbon a matching red or gold.
