Very early, while the air is still and the grass is wet, hot air balloons leave the ground. Before that they lie on their sides in the field like enormous folded sheets, filling slowly until they stand upright. A burner roars in short bursts and an orange flame appears above everyone's heads; then it goes quiet again and there is only the wind sliding past the wicker basket. The colored panels stretch tight and settle. From below, people wave with their arms up, and a round shadow slides across the fields and over the rooftops. Late in the day the balloons come down, brush the tops of the grass, and the basket drags along for a bit before it finally stops.

Easy (2-3 years)
